The PFML Public Hearing

On May 25 the Maine Paid Leave Coalition gathered with hundreds of supporters to advocate for LD 1964, An Act to Implement the Recommendations of the Commission to Develop a Paid Family and Medical Leave Benefits Program at the public hearing for the bill. The day included community connection, education and advocacy.  We heard from people from Kittery to Caribou who all support paid leave for all of Maine’s people.

Our efforts paid off and the Labor and Housing Committee passed LD 1964 in an 8-5 vote. Special thanks to Committee members Senator Mattie Daughtry (bill sponsor!), Senator Mike Tipping, Representative Amy Roeder, Representative Valli Geiger, Representative Traci Gere, Representative Marc Malon, Representative Ronal Russell, and Representative Charles Skold for voting YES on a strong paid leave program.

This is one small win and we cannot let up now!  The bill is off to the Maine House and Senate floor for further votes and lawmakers need to hear from us again! Take action and contact your legislator today to let them know that LD 1964 is a strong paid leave program and a result of 3 years of bipartisan listening, learning, and actuary information. It has been created for Mainers, by Mainers.
