Paid Leave Coalition Coordinator job description
Position Objective: The goal of the Paid Leave Coalition Coordinator is to support our ability to meet our mission by growing individual and organizational members of the Maine Paid Leave Coalition; supporting members to engage in community awareness and engagement; and communicating with the public about the issue of Paid Family and Medical Leave and the work of the Coalition.
About the Maine Women’s Lobby/MWL Education Fund: Since 1978, the Maine Women’s Lobby has advocated for the rights and dignity of Maine women. Through the Maine Women’s Lobby Education Fund, we work to build the skills, knowledge, and confidence of Mainers to support feminist public policy initiatives that improve the lives of everyone, with a focus on the needs and experiences of those most affected by misogyny and oppression.
About the Maine Paid Leave Coalition: The Maine Paid Leave Coalition is a group of 30 organizational partners who work together to create comprehensive system change related to paid family and medical leave, and to implement a system that works for all Mainers, leaving no one behind. The Coalition was founded in 2019.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinating and supporting the Maine Paid Leave Coalition, including:
Coordinating Coalition-wide signature gathering for a paid leave ballot initiative.
Ensuring that Coalition tools, such as contact lists and digital files are accurate and updated to support the Coalition’s community outreach, education, and signature gathering efforts.
Provide staffing and support to the Coalition’s sub-committees.
Connect with Coalition members to ensure that they have the information and resources they need to raise awareness about the need for paid family and medical leave in Maine.
Coordinating community outreach and engagement regarding paid leave, including:
Working with Coalition partners and others to identify or create opportunities for community education, engagement, and activism about paid family and medical leave, such as fairs, movie screenings, and more.
Managing the logistics related to community education and engagement events and actions, and recruit and train volunteers to support the events.
Supporting the Coalition to raise paid leave as an election issue, including helping citizens to connect with candidates, distributing nonpartisan candidate information, and coordinating mailings.
Qualifications:
Excellent communications skills, and an ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships in a wide range of settings. Ability and excitement to connect with people of many backgrounds in public settings such as fairs, rallies, and other events.
Experience with or commitment to helping many individuals and organizations to work together to solve problems.
Creativity and enthusiasm for developing ways to connect people in Maine with citizen advocacy, civic engagement, and the policy-making process.
Experience with or exposure to issues related to paid family and medical leave, such as health care access, worker’s rights, or other issues.
Ability to set and work toward goals independently, as well as with an interconnected, hard-working team.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Volunteer recruitment or management is a plus.
Experience with basic software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite. EveryAction or VAN (Voter Access Network) experience desired but not necessary.

Accountability: This position reports to the Executive Director.
Salary Range: This is an hourly position. Compensation is $20 - $25/per hour.
Status: 30 to 35 hours per week in a temporary one-year position (ending on or around June 30, 2023), with a possibility of extension.
