Girls' Day at the State House
Each year, the Maine Women's Policy Center brings 100 8th grade girls to the State House for a day of hands-on involvement with Maine government. We'd like to thank our 2008 Girls' Day Sponsors for their support of this event.
Students from all over the state get the chance to meet with legislative leadership, engage in a mock public hearing, participate in a mock press conference, explore the State House, meet legislators during a scavenger hunt activity, and meet other girls interested in government.
From one school's perspective: "I have had young ladies attend for the past six years and consider it a priority each year. My students come away from the experience excited and enriched. I look forward to many years of participation."
